misc. June pics

Christian in his BDUs.  It's not a good picture, I don't know what happened...  He passed the Red Cross CPR/First Aid class today!!

And, our Pontefract; the kitty who adopted us.  She just stayed around, let the kids pet her, loves them, wants to be by them every second they're outside.  So, after over a month of this we finally realized she's not leaving so we started feeding her.  Now we KNOW she's not leaving LOL!

So thankful it was only the fence gate!

Jake had his car parked right under where the top of this tree fell just minutes before.  Thankfully he moved it!!  That neighbor across the street there was where several neighbors plus Tom, Christian and Jake went to help bucket out their driveway.  It slopes down into their converted garage space.  The street was flooded with stopped-up drains.  After Jake unclogged them the water started to drain but the 'pool' was still in their driveway. ( I took these pictures the next day, so they will show things looking pretty cleaned up)

Looking the other direction in our back yard.
Looking down the street, our house is on the left.  Where the first power truck is there was a tree across the road, and further down the road also where another power truck is there was another tree across the road.  Both brought down lines with them.  That power pole on the front-left has the transformer that Tom and Jake watched spark and pop during the storm. (while they were sitting in the garage asking eachother if maybe they should come down to the basement...)
Thankfully all our front yard got was a lot of leaf litter.

My poor bush.  The rain and wind was pretty much blowing straight down.  This bush usually stands taller than the gutter.

Only 2 blocks directly in front of us is a park next to a church.  My brother has painted this pavillion for the city a couple times.  Now they must rebuild it.
Same pavillion, behind all the trees.  These were across the road, again with lines.

The other side of the park.

This is what we were seeing, trees that simple fell over with root systems intact!  Sure, there were a lot of snapped trees, but a great bit of them were simply uprooted.  I even saw a line of about 10 trees uprooted like this tipped over like dominoes.

All in all, there were a LOT of trees downed but for the most part homes were saved from what I saw.  I did hear of a neighborhood in a town 7mi away that got it pretty bad, homes too, but our town it was trees and power lines.  Silos and outbuildings were scattered across fields too, and I saw some trees on garages or 3-seasons rooms, but for the most part the 'house' part of the houses were okay.  Just next to one of those power trucks tho there was a house with a tree across it's roof, over their livingroom.

No power for about  19h and a fence gate.  I'm sooo thankful that was all the worst we got.
